27.08.2009 | Slovakia: Living Energy Fund helps both to save expenses and environment

In the first, pilot year, Living Energy Fund of Ekopolis Foundation has supported 8 projects in an amount of 56 771 eur, which are focused on renewable energy sources usage and energy saving.

In the open competition 37 applications from the whole Slovakia were received. NGOs, non-formal inhabitants groups, schools, municipalities, towns and contributory organizations could obtain support in the competition.

"We considered a charitative purpose and technical solution suitability in regard wirh the projects support. Applicants with well prepared and useful applications will be encouraged to lodge their ideas again in the next grant program.", says Peter Medveď, the Ekopolis Foundation director.

Living Energy Fund is an result of cooperation among ZSE Energia, a.s., Ekopolis Foundation and customers, which are interested to support the renewable energy sources usage and development and also show their responsible attitude to the usage of electricity in economy way.

The goal of Living Energy Fund is to support the projects, which contribute to renewable energy sources usage development, to energy effectivness development and also to the support of educational activity, research and development.

"Already lodged applications show, that the Living Energy Fund covers the area, where there is a big need and interest to realise reasonable projects. It has been spoken a lot about renewable energy sources development and energy saving, however there is a lack of effective supporting tools, which could make their application possible in practice." explained Mr. D.M. Fey, a chairman of ZSE Energia, a.s. Board of director, in regard with reasons for the fund establishment.

In the first year the Living Energy Fund supported 3 investment projects and 5 smaller projects orientated on educational activities about renewable energy sources and energy saving.
