17.10.2008 | Tree of the Year Awared in Czech Republic
The Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation will award the seventh annual prize for “Tree of the Year” October 17, 2008. The title “Tree of the Year” is awarded to one tree each year that is selected by a jury from dozens of entries sent in people of all ages from across the country. This year, the winning tree, a linden tree, received a record 33,976 votes out of record 87,338 votes cast. The competition also generated approximately 26,000 EURO for tree planting activities.
The “Tree of the Year” competition is part of the Tree of Life Program. The goal of the competition is to draw attention to the value of trees for the environment. Through a simple and easy to understand symbol the program tries to encourage people to better care for the environment in the communities in which live. The event
The Tree of Life is a grant and assistance program of the Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation. The mission of the Tree of Life program is to help non-governmental organizations, municipalities and other partners create a healthy and aesthetic environment for everyday life. Through community-based tree planting, the program motivates the public to get actively involved in caring for the countryside community life.
